Author
I’m the author of Teach and Celebrate the Year, a seasonal guide packed with creative ways to make learning fun through holidays, activities, and themed printables.
I’m Clare Brown, the voice behind Homeschool of 1 and Weird Holidays. I didn’t set out to build a business or grow a website. I was just a mother trying to do what was best for her kid. When we pulled our son out of school, I thought it would be temporary—a short pause to figure things out. But homeschooling ended up becoming the thing that gave us both room to breathe.
I went from being a finance director in the UK to a full-time stay-at-home mom in a new country, figuring out everything from scratch. I didn’t know what curriculum to use. I didn’t have a Pinterest-perfect homeschool setup. But I knew my son needed something different—and so did I. I created what worked for us, one printable at a time.
Somewhere in the middle of that, I lost and found myself. Like a lot of moms, I faded into the background for a while. I became the one who remembered appointments, packed the bags, kept everything running. I told myself being needed was enough. But eventually, I realized I wanted more than that, I wanted to be seen again. Homeschool of 1 started as a way to share what I was creating for my son, but it quickly became something bigger: a way to reconnect with my own creativity, to build something that was mine.
Now, I’ve made and shared over 1,000 free printables for preschool through 8th grade, with a community of over 40,000 families. I’ve written a book, Teach and Celebrate the Year, and created a second site, Weird Holidays, to bring even more joy and curiosity into the everyday. I live in North Alabama with my husband and teenage son (who’s back in school and thriving), and I spend my days doing work I actually love, work that lets me show up fully as a mom and as myself.
This wasn’t the plan. But it feels like the right one.
